If there's one spot in Dumbo that's bound to host a live event, it's The Archway, a 45-foot-high arch beneath the Manhattan Bridge (you’ll find it on Water Street between Adams Street and Anchorage Place). Bargemusic is an entertainment venue unlike any other in New York City. The “floating concert hall” is a former coffee barge stationed under the Brooklyn Bridge.

The official launch was earlier this month, but Dumbo House kicked off a bit earlier with a group of founding members meant to spread the word.
LIIC sold fire insurance, a necessary protection for the many ships and goods in the area. The building is located on what was known as “Commercial Row.” This area, near Old Fulton Street, was also a familiar haunt for Walt Whitman. It was home to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, the newspaper Walt Whitman edited for two years, from 1846 to 1848. Everything in the room was carefully curated and designed especially for this location; the menus feature illustrations by a local Dumbo artist. The interior is painted the exact shade of blue of the Manhattan Bridge just off in the distance. And the art collection–every house has one–is curated under an architecture theme, with some of the abstract drawings created by local Brooklyn artists.
Ciolli turned Grimaldi’s into a national chain and eventually moved the original restaurant into a three-floor dining space in a former bank building at 1 Front Street. Following the sale, Patsy Grimaldi went into retirement, though he frequently checked in to make sure the new owners were making pizza the way he taught them to. St. Ann’s Warehouse, an avant-garde arts organization known for its plays, music and spoken word performances, was formerly housed in a Brooklyn Heights Gothic church. Occupying the sixth and seventh floors of a former brickfactory, Mexican architect Luis Barragán was a huge inspirationfor the Soho House design team, influencing both the interior andexterior spaces of DUMBO House. Known for his bold and colourfulhouses, it was this playful use of colour that inspired the pinkconcrete roof used on the rooftop bar, as well as lots of richvelvet furnishings in purple, ochre and teal.
With 20 clubs around the world, and eight in North America, including two in Manhattan in the Meatpacking District and the Lower East Side, the move to Brooklyn wasn’t entirely unexpected. Empire Stores on Water Street is a shopping and dining destination located in what was once the heart of DUMBO’s industrial waterfront. Constructed in 1869 and 1885, the historic brick warehouse once stored goods from all over the world including barrels, bags of rubber, wool, linseed oil, and animal hides. The site most notably served as the Arbuckle Brothers Coffee warehouse. Other popular industries in the area were beer, iron-works, and lead paint.
"Luis Barragan, the Mexican architect, was a huge inspiration," Kaufman said. "He worked a lot with colour-blocked concrete in his architecture which helped inform our colour story in Siete." The interiors channel DUMBO's 1960s and 1970s heyday with manyelements of that retro decor style - think thick pile rugs, wicker furnishings andour House favourite Garret armchair in boucle upholstery. This art installation is a nod to the BBC’s children’s show, Playhouse (1964–1988). White City House’s tenth-floor deck area is dressed with 1960s-themed chaises and umbrellas and Terrazzo-tile floors.
